It only takes an instant..
It only takes an instant.. my whole world was turned upside down in an instant. “Can you meet me at Davis, Guido got hit by a car…”
I had just returned from an already less than normal evening. I napped in the hot sun when i got home, i went out to dinner with my roomate, where one of my best friends, Rosina, just happened to be dinning as well. A normal day.
I remember getting home and walking in the door, i opened the back door and called out to Guido; I hadnt seen him all day…
I remember my phone ringing and seeing Jennifer’s name on the screen “weird.. her car is in front of the house”
I remember hearing her say the words.
I was dumbfounded, i told Antonio and immediately, as if on instinct, texted Mantha and Rosina with the news. Antonio and I then sat in the front yard, completely in a daze. 10 minutes later we came to our senses and called Jen back, found out where she was, and jumped in the car.
It was definately a rough ride. I had only a vague clue where i was going, and no clue at all how Guido was doing. Davis emergency vet clinic… Eventually after another phone call or two to Jen, we found ourselves at the UCDavis Vet Med School Emergency Clinic. I could feel myself shaking as i continued to message Rosina with where we were. It was a long walk, wandering around the side of the building looking for the Emergency door. We stood there, pulling at the door when we were mysteriously Buzzed in (ok, so someone was watching us on camera). We rushed inside and up the door and into the exam room.
Even as I saw him curled up under the desk, i was still in a state of shock. My worst fears were releaved a bit as he stood up and wandered a little. He was hit by a car as he sprinted across the street (after he was scared off from sneaking some food, the little scamp) He seemed to be taking off at full speed, as his major injuries are some cuts and scrapes on his right rear leg, and a cut on his front left paw. (The doctor said his front paw was probably injured as he swipped at the car when it hit him.. haha..)
Hes heavily medicated now, he needs antibiotics; and he has to stay indoors for at least 10 days. For a mostly outdoor cat with no litterbox, i think its going to be difficult for him. Its going to be difficult for us! But thank God he is alive.. he will recover, and hopefully he’s learned a valuable lesson.
Man.. it really only takes an instant doesnt it… An instant sooner and he could have been crushed.. and instant later and he would have been fine.. a few instants sooner and he would have also missed the car…
